St Gregory’s Computing Rationale 

Computing Intent:

At St Gregory’s our Computing curriculum aims to ensure our pupils are well-prepared, digitally literate. citizens of the future. Children encounter a rich variety of hardware including Beebots, iPads, laptops, cameras, micro:bits, crumble kits, and interactive whiteboards, and digital software including paint, scratch, data loggers, stop motion studio, chrome music lab. Children develop an understanding of how digital technology and other computational systems are designed, programmed, and operated. Children are able to use computing in creative and innovative ways across the curriculum, encouraging an understanding of computing in its application to real-world situations, systems and products.

Throughout their Computing journey at St Gregory’s children advance through the following units:

  • Computing Systems and Networks
  • Programming
  • Data and Information
  • Creating Media

EYFS:

  • take part in an online safety day
  • access interactive whiteboards
  • play with programmable robots

Key Stage 1:

  • take part in an online safety day
  • learn about computing systems and networks

  • use data loggers and present information using pictograms
  • create digital art
  • create digital music

Key Stage 2:

  • create 3D model media
  • take part in an online safety day
  • learn about computing systems and networks
  • programme digital music

  • use data loggers and present information using branching databases
  • programme micro:bits
  • programme crumble kits
  • create photographic media
  • create stop motion animation
  • log data using spreadsheets
  • create vector graphic media
