Meet the EYFS Team!

Our Vision

Here at St. Gregory’s Early Years, we believe every child is unique and created in the image and likeness of God. We guide and support children to understand that God is our creator and God is always with us. We value and see our children at the heart of everything we do. We celebrate the unique qualities and interests of every child and nurture them to reach full potential to take their place in the world.

Our Aims

  • To nurture and respect every child as an individual
  • To support children to flourish with their learning and development
  • To ensure children have a strong understanding of who they are as an individual
  • To grow with respect and a wide range of religious values, cultural traditions, and different ways of life
  • To integrate each individual’s special need
  • To work in partnership with parents/carers and other professionals
  • To establish a safe and secure environment, with replenished core provisions
  • To help children to learn of Catholic values and our traditions
  • To establish good communications and value the voice of the parent’s and the child

Curriculum

At St. Gregory’s we work hard to ensure the children make excellent progress through fun and engaging play-based learning. We want the children to have excellent experiences, in which they learn lifelong skills and gain an amazing, positive start to their education.

We use the ‘Development Matters‘ document to support our planning and we work towards achieving the EYFS Framework end of Reception goals.

The children are encouraged to use both the inside and outside learning environments, which are set up with continuous and enhanced provision. Continuous provision are the resources which are set up all the time in the environment and our enhanced provision are weekly resources or activities which are set up and link to our topics or termly curriculum overview (see below). All provision is carefully planned to ensure children’s skills are individually developed and learning opportunities are personalised to ensure every child makes excellent progress in their learning journey. Our environments are both supportive and challenging for our children.

Alongside this the children are taught through adult-directed lessons or group activities. These include lessons such as RE, phonics, literacy, maths, PSHE, PE and more. Through these inputs we teach the children new skills which they can then apply independently through their play.

Tapestry

At our school we use Tapestry which is an online learning journal for each child. You will have your own individual log in, in which you can view weekly pictures or videos of your child’s learning. You can comment on these observations and you can add your child’s home achievements, which we can celebrate at school!

Golden Bear

Each week in both Nursery and Reception we choose one superstar to bring the Golden Bear home. Please write about what you did at the weekend with the Golden Bear and stick in/draw some pictures. Some examples of things to write about could be having a film night at home, going to the park or going to the library.

Prayers

The children have been given a prayer book to practice their Year Group prayers. Please ensure you practice each prayer together.

Nursery prayers:

  • Morning Prayer
  • Prayer before meals
  • Prayer after meals
  • Evening Prayer
